When was the last time you printed out a portrait? Years? Me too! Before I decided to sell heirloom’s for my client’s I had no idea what the options were. When I first started my photography journey, I really thought prints were the only real options I had. To be honest, I didn’t really have an overwhelm to print anything. I had digitals, and that was good enough. Until it happened…
One day, I was transferring over almost 1 TB of images, music, etc to another computer, and my flash drive got corrupted. I have no idea how it happened, but it did. Instantly that information was lost! I was devastated, and scared. Now luckily, you can recover the information with expensive programs, so I know that I can and will get them restored at some point. But that’s not always true. Sometimes they can’t be recovered. What do you do then?
With the advancements of the internet, the big data companies like Google, and Amazon are clamoring for you to upload your personal photos to their servers for “safe keeping”. But what happens if you hit your data limits? You have to pay for more, which turns into a monthly fee. They get to dictate your data limits, and if you can’t pay – they will give you a certain amount of time to retrieve your files, before lowering the limit.
Why? Why do we trust technology with our most precious images? Anything can happen to them, and it’s proven that SD cards are not archival. Nor are hard drives, because they break down over time. So what’s one sure fire way to keep your most precious images safe, and within the family? Prints! Printing your portraits on archival paper can keep the images safe and beautiful for hundreds of years. My lab prints gorgeous images, with popping colors, and deep blacks. Printed on archival quality paper, you will get your images to last, for many-many years!
Don’t put the future of your portraits in the hands of Google, Facebook, Amazon, or hard-drives that will one day corrupt. It’s ok to have those as backups, but you need a backup for the backup. Prints are certainly the way to go, and it’s why I love them so much!
This month I am featuring 25% off all prints! Contact me if you are interested in the best backup system!
